India believes that subsidies on exports: Prabhu

In a program, Lord said that the Indian government is only trying to reduce the problems of its exporters, which can not be said to be given subsidies for exports.

New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu on Saturday said that the concept of granting subsidy to India on its exports is a misunderstanding. Prabhu said in a program that the Government of India should only try to reduce the problems of its exporters. It can not be said that subsidies for export can not be given. He said that it is a misconception that we subsidize our exports. We fully comply with the WTO and do not infringe upon its rules in any way.

Prabhu said that OECD countries are giving more subsidy to their farmers especially for export of agricultural products. Regarding agriculture sector, the Prabhu said that it is important to provide market access to the farmers, which will require higher standards of protection so that non-coastal obstacles (NTB) can be overcome. He said that the government is already working on agriculture policy to double the income of farmers (from input language).
